Study Shows Girls Who Play Soccer Are More Self-Confident
The Union of European Football Associations has
published the results of a study showing that girls who play soccer have more confidence in themselves, in comparison to those who play other popular sports. The study was conducted by psychologists who surveyed 4,128 young girls over 13 years of age in Denmark, the UK, Germany, Spain, Poland and Turkey.
Among the findings:
80% of teenage girls exhibited more confident behavior thanks to playing in a soccer team/club versus 74% of those who played other sports.
48% said they are less self-conscious as a result of playing soccer, compared with 40% of those who play other sports.
54% of young soccer players agreed or strongly agreed with the statement "I am less concerned what others think about me as a result of playing my sport" compared with 41% of those who played other sports.
58% of the 13-17 year-old female soccer players questioned said they had overcome a lack of self-confidence as a result of playing soccer.
